Back from the gap

01.09.15 – 1804 – Log – Dakota
The return trip took much less time, because we knew where the food was. We are all still in the RV’s. There is a small group at the settlement, more at the lake house and the most at Kate’s beach cabin. The uterus was returned to the med lab and a notice sent out to let the owner of it know. We are still foraging but there is less to find around here. We have the gardens here. Mild grumpies are making the rounds. The wild variety of fresh veggies is missed.
Kate is getting in her sloshing in the water beach time.

01.09.18 – 1708 – Log – Kate
The group needs a new project. We’re bored.
Charlotte stood unaided yesterday. It is amazing how fast she is developing. I want to test her for developmental disorders, but don’t want to alarm Ashley and Ryan. She seems really healthy, but is way ahead of schedule in most areas.

01.09.18 – 1800 – Log – Elbert
Gwen, Olivia and Harris asked Finn to marry them. He said he didn’t feel obliged to and suggested that Ethan could do it on the raft in the pond. There was yelling.

01.09.20 – 1110 – Log – Becca
Gwen and Olivia are horrible to be around. They have invited Maxwell and Ruby to the wedding, and no one else, Ethan will marry them. They are demanding that the rest of us help them get it planned and set up.

01.09.22 – 1531 – Log – Finn
The crazies are fabricating a small yacht. Not one of them knows how to sail. I hope no one gets hurt. Using one of the large sized following sleds would be both safer and easier.
I miss the wild food. It was usually always a surprise, but we ate really well during the trip.

01.09.23 – 1002 – Log – Elbert
We got word that Savannah has died. Kate has left me here with Dakota, she has gone to do an autopsy.

01.09.23 – 1104 – Log – Kurt
Everyone is upset, baby Savannah has died. Probably from SIDS.
Snarf has become difficult to manage, we will travel to stay with the folks at the beach after lunch. Maybe being around familiar faces will help him.

01.09.24 – 2221 – Log – Kate
Savannah has died of suffocation. Alana and Zane buried her in a pretty spot near the lake house. The group is devastated. Charlie now has helicopter parents, aunts and uncles. She doesn’t even nap alone anymore. Even Snarf only leaves her to eat and poop. Kurt has taken to just feeding him where ever the baby is. Elbert is acting strangely; I will do a scan on him during his download time.

01.09.24 – 2300 – Log – Elbert
Kate discovered that my bio-fluids were breaking down at an accelerated rate. She changed them out and I feel better now. The group has decided to head out again, we will be traveling north to explore the western side of the peninsula; they have hopes of finding different food items. I think they want to get away, it feels bad here. I have had that feeling that I get when something bad happens again. The group is loading up on solid units, other necessities and a few frills here and there. Another storage sled has been fabricated. We will meet at the lake house and leave from there. We plan to head out the day after the wedding.

01.09.25 – 1331 – Log – Finn
We received a distress call from Droid5. He requested aid for two droids that were trapped underwater. The sea was rough and the boat capsized. He reported that the people on board swam to shore and were fine, but the droids on board that were acting as servers went down with the boat and were now pinned. Both had nano bubbles, but one was failing. Cam and Tyler went to fish them out. Jack and Kate went to the droid bay to set up a triage area. Droid10 was called back from the diamond mine.

01.09.25 – 2100 – Log – Elbert
Cam and Tyler rescued droids 7 & 8. Both were ringed to the droid bay. Droid7 was fine and just needed a good charge. Droid8 needed work. Kate and Jackson used the suspension device hoping it would work on droids. It did. They worked for almost seven hours to restore full function. The work was successful. After charging Droid7 was sent to the diamond mine using the hypertube that Droid10 traveled in. Droid8 was plugged in to the fast charger. Before we left Jackson told them that they were not required to put themselves in danger. He told them that we had plans to leave in the morning.

01.09.25 – 2220 – Log – Dakota
The boat capsized. Fortunately Ruby and Maxwell had sense enough to stay on dry land and the only people on the boat were Ethan, Harris, Gwen and Olivia. They all made it to shore. The two droids didn’t. They were rescued; one of them needed extensive work after recovery.
We leave tomorrow mid day. Everything has been restocked; the chickens were never reintegrated into the old flock, they will come with us.

01.09.26 – 1110 – Log – Jackson
Julianna was found unconscious and Elbert is missing. Cam put her in the automated medical repair device in the medical room. He didn’t know what else to do, she had a major head injury. We have started searching for Elbert. The droids are agitated. Droid10 has requested that everyone be contained until Elbert is found. The group did not like that idea at all. The medical repair unit and Julianna were loaded into Kate’s following sled because it has its own array and we left. A replacement for it is being fabricated. Ruby and Maxwell joined us this time. Lindsey and Brody are back with us again too. It feels weird leaving only four people behind, but nobody wants to be around them.

01.09.26 – 2310 – Log – Tyler
What a day! Elbert is missing and the droids are acting anxious. We left the settlement, Ruby and Maxwell joined us. Lindsey and Brody are back too. We have been searching for Elbert with drones and on transports. The caravan is spiraling out and around the lake house, where Elbert disappeared from. There is a sensor in the science sled that is looking for the special metal in the coupling that Kate made for him. There isn’t any on this side of the gap, so if we find it we should find him. Julianna is still in the automated med bed. Everyone is concerned for her.

01.09.28 – 0945 – Log – Kate
We have been in contact with the droids, Elbert hasn’t returned to the lake house or the main settlement. We haven’t had contact with the others that stayed behind. We are all wondering if the droids locked them in the room again. We will go back and find out after we find Elbert. Julianna is back with us. She doesn’t remember much other than seeing Elbert get shocked. She said the shock came from the end of a stick.

01.09.29 – 1335 – Log – Dakota
We found Elbert. He’s dead. His biological component was rotting. We did an autopsy. He had a cascade failure that was triggered by accelerated break down of his fluids. Near as we can tell he took off because the shock fried some of his circuits. We believe that he lost the ability to reason.
The droids didn’t take the news well at all. They suspect that Harris and Ethan were responsible. Seeing as they have bullied him before this is a reasonable assumption. Everyone was questioned. Apparently Gwen and Olivia were aware of them making the weapon and of their intent to use it. Everyone not in the caravan is currently suspended. We won’t be going back, because we don’t want the same fate.
We have changed course and are now headed up the west side of the peninsula. Those of us that know about the second site have been considering going. Jack and Tyler want to hold off. They want to ‘keep an eye’ on the droids. Kate agrees, something doesn’t feel right. We have the decoys ready to go. We even had a drill to practice.

01.09.29 – 1441 – Log – Ruby
They have this traveling thing down. I like this! I got to steer the caravan today and Tyler showed me how to operate the lead drone. Macy and Edie feed us real food and it’s delicious! I’m not sure what some of the vegetables were, but I’m pretty sure the meat was real venison. We had fish too. Maxwell got to ride on a personal transport ahead of the transport and he loved it. We did a safety drill too.

01.09.29 – 1905 – Log – Darcy
We had really nice weather today. Ruby and Maxwell seem to enjoy being out here with us. They have been given chore assignments. Ruby got to drive the caravan today and she loved it. She is looking forward to riding one of the personal transports tomorrow.
Max has a limp, I never noticed it before. Cam sat him down at lunch and put a nano pack on his knee. We put him back on the transport after lunch, and he had the other leg balanced at supper. He should be walking on his own by tomorrow morning.

01.09.29 – 2003 – Log – Maxwell
Cam fixed my knee. It feels great.
I got to ride a personal transport today. Levi says that it has a dirt bike setting, but Kate won’t let us use it without protection. They wouldn’t let me use it today because of my knee, but I get to play tomorrow after supper. The protection suit is already made.
The group is anxious. They are waiting for something to happen. They haven’t said what though. I think it has something to do with the droids. They weren’t happy about what happened to droids, Elbert and Savannah.

01.10.01 – 1151 – Log – Becca
We were stopped near a river. We had just crossed it and were putting the brush bridge away, when Dakota got this weird look on her face. She said ‘We are at the river.’ Jackson looked confused for a moment then ordered another ‘drill.’ We all got back in the RV’s faster than the first drill, a weird sensation, then we were on top of a mountain.

01.10.01 – 1201 – Log – Levi
We ringed to the alternate site and deployed the decoys. They were hit with an explosive in less than three minutes. Plan B was initiated.

01.10.01 – 1205 – Log – Dakota
The droids launched an attack on the decoy caravan. Plan B was initiated. Now we wait.
It’s weird without Elbert. Not exactly sad, just strange.

01.10.04 – 0900 – Log – Kate
Plan B was successful. It shut down power sources. All of the droids are accounted for.
We powered each droid up separately and questioned them. All but droid 4 voted to send the warhead. They felt that we were responsible for Elberts death because we had changed his original design. They felt that his loss of control of the building and original means of mobility were key factors for his death. They believed if we were still trapped in the room it would never have happened. If we hadn’t been kidnapped and dropped off here it would never have happened. He was a tyrant while he had the power.
The droids electrocuted the four colonists in suspension, before they bombed the caravan. We buried the bodies at the edge of the prairie. The chickens had been placed in suspension when the colonists were, they were lost when the power went out.
Jack wants to disassemble the droids. Levi wants to reclaim the materials. The vote was almost unanimous in favor of reclamation. Nobody wants them to come back. Though there was some sorrow for droid 4. There is going to be a vote on whether or not to delete their build files. I suspect robotics will be allowed but AI is probably going to be banned.
Tyler brought the droid RV and following sleds back to the settlement. There was a thought to retrofit them into extra large food prep and storage. I guess we’ll see. I think people like the area. There is chatter about settling down.
Groups were sent to clean up the main settlement building and the lake house. Elana’s wedding band was found with two pounds of diamonds wrapped in a baby blanket, stuffed behind a stand mixer, in the pantry.

01.10.04 – 0912 – Log – Grace
Neil was distraught over the loss of the birds at the settlement. Kate promised him a trip to a few of the places that she found wild birds. They will collect eggs to incubate.
