Vermicomposting – Starter references
Composting takes biological matter and breaks it down to a form that can be used by plants for food. Traditionally it is done outside in piles with the work done by bacteria. In this instance worms are employed. Worm farming can be done inside and if done correctly has no smell or bugs. Most people that compost inside feed their worms kitchen scraps. There is a lot of information available online about worm farming. The sampling of videos embedded below are: a few how on to set up your own bin, an example of worm farming for profit, a couple of time lapse videos, and a college level webinar on vermicomposting. There are many types of bins that can be purchased if you want to go that route. There are also many other videos available online for reference. If you start a bin and run into problems there are troubleshooting video’s too.

Healing the land – With Jess and Miah of Roots and Refuge Farm
Jess and Miah are salt of the earth people with big dreams. One of them is to build and run a homesteading learning center with both on the land learning and a place to learn home based skills. They outgrew their old farm, so they found a new place, bought it, packed up, moved and jumped right in. They have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time, hitting some bumps in the road along the way. One of the bumps was a purchased batch of compost that had herbicide in it. It has damaged almost everything that was planted in it. While this probably isn’t the first big lesson that they wanted to teach they have been researching remediation techniques. If your interested I invite you to follow them in their journey to clean up the mess that they were given.
She’s a sweetie pie and will bless you until next time. I do too.
