Composting takes biological matter and breaks it down to a form that can be used by plants for food. Traditionally it is done outside in piles with the work done by bacteria. In this instance worms are employed. Worm farming can be done inside and if done correctly has no smell or bugs. Most people that compost inside feed their worms kitchen scraps.
