Year 4

The prison has an ant problem. We have brought scanners to map the colonies. Kate says we can ring the colonies under the building out and fill the voids with concrete. The colonies in the enclosure will get a soil swap.

Operation ant removal seems to have gone well. The relocated ants don’t seems to be too freaked out about being ringed, but I’m not sure what that would look like in an ant.
We have been slacking on our ‘visiting rate’ to the prison. We stock the fridge, freezer and suspension unit, but they mostly eat from the fabricator so we haven’t been coming by as much. Why give them perishables if they are going to waste them?

Dakota and Maci came by to make soap with Kate this morning. Kate made some for the children that Dakota described as ‘rainbow unicorn’. When I looked it up in the entertainment files the descriptor does fit it well. Charlotte enjoys brightly colored clothes and toys, and her room is painted a vivid pink, I suspect she will enjoy it very much. There was some ‘practical’ soap made and some ‘fancy.’
The house smelled so bad after an hour that I went to visit Jackson and the children. Kate has set me up with a specialized transport, so I am independent now. I gave young Jack, Brook, Marley and Linc rides around the yard, because Camden was visiting too. Zoe and Henry were deemed too young to ride even though the dampening system would have held them on. When it was decided that the sandbox was the next play space I joined the men who were discussing how Camden’s man cave had been invaded by Dakota and the children and needed to be cleaned out. Jackson suggested putting a lean to on the side of it and assigning the children their own areas to put their stuff. I suggested a footing under it to get the toys up off the ground so they don’t get muddy when it rains. Camden liked the ideas. We discussed fishing after that. Kate consistently knows where the fish are, and Jackson thinks she uses her sky scanners to find them. I am not aware that she does this. She just seems to know.
We went back home to start lunch in the outdoor kitchen. I could still smell the soap fragrance from outside. Jackson looked at me and laughed, ‘The girls like the smelly stuff don’t they?’
We didn’t actually cook, we just reheated. Now that I have graspers I can help somewhat, so I helped to unload the refrigerator.
After lunch was story time at Ashley and Ryans and then nap time.
The girls finished the soap making a few hours after lunch. Kate ringed the soap to one of the rooms in the observatory. We opened up the house and the smell dissipated.

The prison has a bird problem now. We upped our visiting schedule since the ant invasion, but it doesn’t seemed to have helped. There are crows on the roof and geese in the yard. Both will attack anyone that leaves the house. The guys have asked if the fence can be made into a dome or maybe we could put up a giant net like I have over the rabbits. I gave them a small temporary dome over the buildings and a little bit of walking area. The dome for the entire enclosure will take longer to construct. Questions were asked at the last meeting about what was going on. Everything is generally approved by committee so we had to do some tap dancing. We didn’t tell anyone about the troubles at the island. Maybe we should have.
