07.06.14 – 1651 – Log – Jackson
Kate has put a work request in for five to eight people to do cotton harvesting. The technique is easy, she has small harvesters that are linked to personal transports. You just drive around the field, dump the load on your ring pad when its full and then start over. The rings send it to big bags that can be hooked up to the cleaner tool. It doesn’t even take long. She pays well, you can take twenty five percent of what you harvest (cleaned, she resows the seeds) or the equivalent in solid units. Its open to the children too, they get thirty percent of their harvest. Charlotte was the first one to put her name in. All of the adults put the breaks on with that, she still loves bumper cars. It adds an element of challenge to the harvest. So far Jack, Charley, Marley and Joel have signed up. Joel was warned after he signed up. The transports all have dampeners so he wasn’t worried about being hit. I think he’s looking at it as a fun event and not so much work. Levi is considering now that Joel is doing it. Zane and Tyler are scheming to set up one or two of the RV’s with bleachers on top to watch from.
07.06.14 – 1600 – Log – Elbert
Today was cotton harvesting day. What a day! To start with I caught young Jack restricting the speed on Charlotte’s transport. Kate said to leave it, she said that Charlotte needed something to slow her down. Charlotte does have a habit of running into people. Kate calls it bumper cars. I suppose it would help the others to avoid her. Marley did something to the steering, I couldn’t see what at the time. It turns out she set the machine to drift five degrees to the right when going straight. When turning right the machine went hard right with a five foot turning radius. When turning left the angle was widened, with a turning radius of about thirty feet. It was interesting to watch. Levi joined them and made it a point to guard the others from Charlotte when he could. The gains achieved by handicapping the machine were negated by the roaring laughter. I think if they had conspired with each other it would have been less ridiculous. Marley has an alarming amount of skill. Camden works with her outside of her regular school work, but I didn’t realize he had covered programming and over rides for the transports. Zane and Tyler worked up stadium seating so there was a crowd watching. Jackson got video of it. Everybody had a good time. Charlotte can’t wait until next year.
07.06.14 – 1710 – Log – Zane
Marley changed the operative steering of Charley’s transport for the cotton harvest. It was hysterical. Its also a little scary that she figured out on her own how to do it. I blame it on a combined effect of Charley’s willfulness’s and Cam and Kate’s crazy creative influence. I used to joke about Kate’s workshop lair, Marley will make a good successor when the time comes.
