Year 9 version 2

09.02.08 – 1413 – Log – Zane
Kate’s geodesic dome class is coming up, I put in to be a teachers aid. The theory will be taught, small models will be built in class, and she wants the older children to design their own domes and then the class would build them. I asked about join plates and she said it would be up to the students. I’m going to strongly encourage them. It should be a fun class.

09.03.02 – 1930 – Log – Kate
The geodesic dome class is going well. Zane has pulled out all of the adult that he has in him and has been a great help in class. We are just finishing up the small in class models and will be going outside to build the larger models that the ‘big’ children designed. Riley talked her way into the group. She is keeping up. She’s working her tail off to do it; she wants to be a ‘big’ girl.

09.03.02 – 2003 – Log – Alana
Zane has been helping Kate with her class. He is really good at it. I think he surprised himself. We both love to build things but neither of us have considered teaching before. I suggested that he make up his own class and give it a try on his own. We have the space to have woodworking classes here. We could even teach adults. The group here has doubled since we found thearn, and is still slowly growing.

09.03.03 – 2003 – Log – Jackson
Kate has a special project that is sort of a combined learning experience and job. She found new a type of rice and wants to make terracing that can be flood irrigated. She wants to divert the water to the rice beds and then back to the river. She already has plans drawn up, but she wanted to give the children a chance to play with basic modeling. She already has the area that she picked modeled in the program. They would just need to put in the terraces and route the inflow and outflow of the water. Jack is crazy excited to get started. Marley is trying to convince Charlotte to sign up. Riley put her name on the list. She’s a bit youngish, but Kate thinks her grit and persistence will get her through. She did have a respectable geodesic dome. Kate moved it up the mountain for her and she is training flowering plants on it. Jack put a door in his and used some of his solid units and made a covering with windows. Its a substantial structure he has slung some hammocks in there. Charlotte made a similar covering for hers, though hers is mostly clear with just the topmost opaque to keep the worst of the sun off. She put in venting for fresh air and she built in levels to climb up on, on the inside. I think she intended for Dash to use it mostly, but its child friendly too. Jamie has been spotted in it many times. It makes a neat fort and is an interesting looking structure with the vent type windows opened out. Emmy also put a door in hers and has made it into a greenhouse and gifted it to Annette, who was ecstatic both with the gift and the sentiment behind it.

09.03.04 – 1523 – Log – Camden
Marley convinced both Charley and Emmy to do the rice paddy project. I spoke with Kate and she is thinks that the classroom part will go quickly. They are all spatially capable and she is keeping it simple. She predicts the biggest problem that they will have is getting the water in and out. Young Jack will likely do most of the grading though the girls will help with the elevations. The girls will put in most of the gates. Kate is letting them use the computer builder machines, but they have to give it the correct measurements. Jack is already competent with using the computer builder machines, so Kate isn’t worried about him missing out. Kate thinks both groups will finish at about the same time.
